A young couple are adding the final touches to their wedding plans. But there is a crucial hurdle yet to be crossed. The girl’s parents have to meet the boy and approve. Now the girl is worried that her conservative parents are not going to like the boy with his long hair and that it could even ruin their marriage plans. She asks him to chop off his locks and meet the parents with a short haircut. The boy is against the very idea as he is attached to his hair and believes it is a part of his identity. They then debate over the different facets of the decision, both highly passionate about the meat in their side, soon turning it into a heated argument. And as the argument progresses, it gets personal with each side saying some mean things. Not wanting to take a chance, she manages to arm-twist the boy into getting a haircut, for her sake, even if it is half-hearted and unwilling from his end. After meeting the parents and securing their approval, the boy has a new request to make of her.
‘Haircut’ is a narrative short for Director Poojitha Prasad. Poojitha tells the story of a seemingly petty argument between soulmates taking an ugly turn. In a well laid out plot, she builds up the conflict between the characters at a very steady pace without tilting the scales to either side. The performances by both the actors are commendable as they bring alive, the battle between egos and also the underlying love for each other in the right proportions.
‘Haircut’ makes a case on where to draw the line between ego and sacrifice. When a demand is made on our ego that we are unhappy to give into, we decide to call it a sacrifice when we give in to that demand. This deception will not take the sting out of an ego hurt, and one should be ready for the whiplash.
