The fantasy realm where John Hardy is at war with villains and demonic undergrowth in a hallucinatory landscape is a wild place. While the protagonist runs down his unarmed adversary with a revolver, he does not know that shortly the demonic flora of the area is about to revolt against him. He fends off this strike with his shooting skills, but soon finds himself defeated by the plants. He is soon rendered captive by the strange plants who bind him with their tentacles and offer him up for sacrifice.
‘John Hardy’ is an animation film by Director Laurent MERCIER. Mercier sets up a three-dimensional world with a mixture of elements. He fills this world with imaginary vines and creepers that are rigged to perfection to work deft movements and actions. The film expresses mastery of the art of animation through the facial expressions of the human characters through their emotional journey across various situations. The modelling of these characters pays attention to the finer details, and creates believable elements in this fantasy landscape. The heavy metal background score is a good fit for the situation the film deals with.
