Matt Harrison, or Matty Boy, is the naïve scion of an established wealthy family. His dad, who is fully aware of the dangers of a simpleton like matt handling the finances, handed Matty boy his riches taking over the reins of the family business. When Matt’s wife is diagnosed with a life-threatening condition, she out of her love for her husband, persuades him to take another wife. The enthusiastic Matt uses this opportunity to get himself a second wife. But when his first wife is cured, Matt finds himself with two wives. Eventually the three settle down into a regime where they co-exist and lead a peaceful life. Soon, this life loses shine and Matt sees visions of his grandfather in his dreams advising him to take one more wife and that she must be exotic. Matt meets the exotic Lucy on the streets one day and he is instantly smitten. Soon he takes her home to meet his other wives. His two wives agree for Matt to take a third one, after they go over some paperwork and financial transactions. The four now live happily under the same roof. Soon, Matt goes for something even more exotic and then they become five. Is there something or someone who is driving the entire sequence of events? Or is it Matt and his vision of his grandfather?
‘Matty Boy’ is a narrative short by Director Dr Shahid Kamal. Dr. Shahid tells the story of Matty Boy through the narrative of Matt’s father. Dr. Shahid establishes the premise and the characters right at the onset, allowing for a relaxed viewing and ample opportunities to enjoy the different comic layers of the story. A well-appointed production, the film engages with its unintrusive camera and a music track that does not interrupt the essence of the scene. The film also benefits from the brilliant performances of the cast and the soulful narration drives the story in the right direction and to the right pace. ‘Matty Boy’ leaves us eager to know more about what happens in the life of Matt when he meets his fifth woman.
