A young couple, Ali and Mahour, discover themselves in a rough situation when their everyday routine takes an unforeseen twist because of a trivial misunderstanding. Ali and Mahour are a loving couple whose relationship it spiced with loud arguments accompanied by moments of romantic affection. One fateful day, the two spar over a trivial matter, during one such exchange. As they patch up over a cup of morning tea, Ali discovers something tucked away in a closet that makes him question Mahour’s love for him. Feeling cheated and scorned and in the heat of the moment, Ali takes matters into his own hands and gets even with Mahour, and those who have wronged him.
‘Wait a moment’ is a narrative short by Director Edris Naseri. Edris tells the domestic story of young Ali and Mahour that turns sour as a result of one hasty decision from Ali. Edris tells this story with stark visuals and lengthy shots that linger a little longer than needed on objects and characters, to create the relaxed mood of a sleepy morning when time seems to drag along at a leisurely pace. The well-written screenplay does not miss out on the strong underlying current of love between the couple while it splashes around the regular bickering between the two on the surface. The manner in which both the characters work to placate the other after a fiery barb during their conversation, is something worth highlighting about the writing.
‘Wait, a moment’ is the story of how a misunderstanding can ruin lives. The little secrets that we hide from others, takes on very different forms when they are discovered. When secrets are unearthed, the actual intentions behind hiding them in the first place become unacceptable. This creates the ideal situation for a thoughtless act to ruin lives.
