Jaiveer is an Indian immigrant working in the US. He is passionate about creating music and spends all his free time working on his creations. He wants to explore his options in the field of music and create something that will brighten up people’s day. Six months into the pandemic, we meet Jaiveer in his pad in Seattle for a casual chat about his life, work and his music. Jaiveer has a day job that allows him to stay and work in the United States. He writes code. He explains how he hates his meaningless job and the hours he spends writing code for companies. He laments how it is a waste of creative energy while he could be doing something that is much more productive and satisfying for him, He talks about the contrast between his day job and his night job which is his music. His day job is the means to stay back in the country for his night job, his music. Does he contemplate whether it is worth all this effort just to stay back in the country?

‘Jaiveer has a day job’ is a lockdown film from director Lorenzo Benitez. Lorenzo captures the mood of the period of the lockdown in all its elements with the shaky camera movements in a confined space and the yearning shots of the surrounding from through the windows. The camera brings underlines the clear separation in Jaiveer’s life, with his coding computer on one side and his music equipment standing on the other. Visually, we see both of Jaiveer’s worlds coming together because of the lockdown. Jaiveer’s music provides the ideal background score for telling his story.

‘Jaiveer has a day job’ is a glance into the life of foreign workers who want to do much more than what they are employed for. It makes us think of how much more can be achieved if everyone can do what his passion directs him to.
