The pandemic is transforming the world as we knew it, and the transformation is not yet complete. As we encounter fresh waves and come across new mutations in the virus, humankind continues to evolve and adapt to the changing conditions. We cannot yet see the finish line ahead, neither do we know what the end of the pandemic will bring. We will be sagacious to expect some significant changes in our ways after the pandemic. ‘The morning after’ looks at one possibility of how the situation might be, at the time when the pandemic has run its course. Confined to her house during the lockdown, a young girl struggles to manage her personal life and her work commitments under the constrains of the new impositions. As the months go by and the lockdown continues unabated, she gets used to her ‘new normal’. Like the rest of the world, she too deals with personal losses on her own. And one day, when the world declares that it has put the pandemic behind, she looks at the alternative world that this pandemic has created.

‘The morning after’ is a lockdown film by director Ambarish Majumdar. Conceived and produced during the lockdown under the rigid protocols of safety and Covid precautions, the film imagines how this pandemic can change our dysfunctional society. Ambarish uses elements endemic to the story to tell us about how the changes that go unnoticed during extended lockdowns. Missing out on domestic help, getting groceries home delivered, losing dear ones etc. are all woven into the passage of time during this dreary and monolithic lockdown extending for almost a thousand days. Simple visuals that do not grab attention away from the monotony of the lockdown and the ambient television sounds in the background carry the story forward effortlessly.

‘The morning after’ takes a positive view of how the pandemic can change human race for the batter. It believes that after bearing such a heavy loss of life, man will be persuaded to mend his ways and realize what is important in life.
